Hon Boniface Emerengwa has emerged the PDP flag bearer for Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency.
He emerged the flag bearer at Omagwa town in Ikwerre Local government area of Rivers State on Thursday. Of the total delegates’ votes of 292, Emerengwa polled 231 votes, while Mr Chukwudi Dimkpa got 62 votes.
While speaking to journalists at the venue of the party’s primary, the PDP State Public Secretary, Darlington Orji, expressed his joy for the peaceful conduct of the delegates.
He noted that PDP has decided to achieve victory in the general elections in 2019.
Mr Orji stressed that the era of imposition of candidates in the party and people is over as the party will ensure that it provides equal opportunities to all of its candidates to exercise their rights.
He said that whoever that is on ground and accepted by the people has the mandate to fly the party flag.
Those candidates, according to him, should have been tested, trusted and demonstrated to be credible before his/her people.
Orji also commended the leadership of PDP at the Federal and the state level for the visible place in the party.
He said: “I’m very happy with the conducts of the delegates of Ikwerre/Emohua local government areas. They have gone further to prove that PDP is reformed under the leadership of Prince Uche Secondus and at the state level, under the leadership of Bro Felix Obua.
“This shows that PDP is ready for peaceful and credible elections unlike what happened in the opposition party election where they were throwing dynamites among other weapons. That’s a show of shame that will tell you that they are not ready for credible elections. This will go along the way to prove to the nations that PDP has set the pace.
Mr Orji maintained that the two aspirants are very qualified but the people have to make the decision. He called on the aspirants to show the spirit of sportsmanship by embracing each other and work together to ensure victory for the party.
On his part, the chairman of Ikwerre local government area, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike described what happened as an evidence of internal party democracy where candidates were allowed to canvass for delegates votes and present themselves to the will of the party and its members.
The Council Boss said the aspirants will go home feeling happy and fulfilled that they put up their best for public assessment, considering the fact that people voted without doubts.
He also commended all the delegates for conducting themselves peacefully and encouraged those who lost to take it in good faith and join the party to win the 2019 general elections.
