NSF: Asaba set to host zonal eliminations

By Ugochukwu Iwuchukwu

The South-South Zonal Elimination of the 2018 National Sports Festival will hold at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba from 8th-13th October.

The zonal coordinator of South-South Directors of Sports, Sunny Obot, stated this during an event in Port Harcourt.

He stated that Stephen Keshi stadium was chosen to host the elimination because of the facilities at the stadium.

Obot said that the stadium recently hosted the African Athletics Championships.

He revealed that the Directors of Sports in the region are not leaving any stone unturned in their bid to make South-South the pillar of sports in the country.

The Zonal Coordinator of South-South Directors of Sports during the event said that they have lined up some programmes geared towards developing sports at the grassroots and also appealed to corporate organizations in the region to invest in grassroots sports development.

Sunny Obot said investment by corporate world in sports development will go a long way in unearthing new talents for the country.

He, however, commended Delta State Government for winning the 2018 National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara State.

He stated that Delta State Government has invested so much in sports development and urge other south-south states to emulate Delta State.

The Director of Sports Delta State, Chris Anaziah, said the State is set to host the zonal eliminations in Asaba.

He stated that the facilities at the Stephen Keshi stadium are still new and in good shape.

Chris Anaziah noted that the secret behind the successes of Delta State in national and international competitions is due to teamwork, hard work, and early preparations.
