Argument against direct primaries is baseless – Abe

Governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Senator Magnus Abe, has congratulated all members of the party in the state for their peaceful conduct and the success recorded during the direct primaries to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari in yesterday’s presidential primary election.

Abe, in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Parry Saroh Benson in Port Harcourt said the successful conduct of the direct primaries is an indication that the argument against it in Rivers state is baseless and inconsequential.

He said: “I want to thank and congratulate all APC members in Rivers State for coming out en-masse in their respective wards during the direct primaries to vote for President Muhammadu Buhari at the party’s presidential primary”.

“The peaceful conduct of the direct primaries and the success recorded is a demonstration that the people have wholeheartedly accepted the direct primaries mode of voting as the solution and mechanism to ensure that internal democracy thrives in Nigeria.

“I therefore urge all members of our party to mobilise and turn out in their numbers to participate in the direct primaries in choosing a candidate of their choice in tomorrow’s gubernatorial election that will take place in the state,” the Senator said.

“Abe urged all stakeholders to sink their differences and come together to elect a candidate of their choice, even as he promised to abide by the decision of the majority of members in a free and fair contest.

Senator Abe said further, “The time for bitterness and hatred is over. It is time for us to come together as one and focus on the future of Rivers State.”
