Shell denies involvement in Kula military invasion

Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) has denied involvement in the ongoing disagreement within communities in the Kula Kingdom in Okuku-Toru local government area of Rivers State over the occupation of its production facilities at Belema Flow Station and gas plant.

Kula indigenes on Monday protested against the military invasion of the community due to disagreements with the multinational company.

Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, in a statement, called the invasion an insult to the Niger Delta region and urged Shell not to resort to intimidation in settling communal disputes.

But Shell, in a statement issued on Thursday and made available to theportcitynews denied the allegations brought against it by the community.

The company in the statement said it was not involved in the deployment of soldiers to the community, adding that it had chosen to dialogue with the community members so as to establish trust and good working relationships.
