Soldier shoots man dead in Oyigbo

A 34-year-old man identified as Chibuzo aka Mighty has allegedly been shot dead by a soldier in Oyigbo.

The sad event occurred in the early hours of Monday.

According to an eyewitness report, the soldier allegedly shot Mr Chibuzo dead when he intervened in the case of another man who was undergoing severe torture in the hands of the soldiers.

A source told theportcitynews that one of the soldiers slapped the deceased for daring to question the rationale behind the excessive manhandling handed to another.

However, before the victim could respond appropriately, the soldier pulled his trigger and shot the victim dead at close range.

When contacted, the Rivers State police command said it is yet to be informed of the development, adding that it would respond appropriately when it has been duly briefed about the killing.

Theportcitynews could not reach the APRO of 6 Div of the Nigerian Army for comments on the matter.
