Some presidential aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have reportedly faulted the party’s decision to move the presidential convention slated for October 6 to Port Harcourt, Rivers state.
Vanguard reports that the aspirants are questioning the rationale behind moving the convention to Rivers state and some are demanding an alternative venue.
The decision to have the important convention in Port Harcourt was made at a meeting between the PDP governors and National Working Committee (NWC) on Thursday, September 13.
It was gathered that one of the aspirants who questioned the meeting’s decision to have the convention in Rivers state is Atiku Abubakar.
A source close to the PDP Governors’ Forum and the aspirants said: “They are asking for a different venue. Among the venues being considered are Lagos, Delta and Akwa Ibom.”
There are 13 aspirants vying for the PDP presidential ticket.
It was earlier reported that the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees panel saddled with the responsibility of producing a consensus candidate for the party would meet with aspirants on Thursday, September 20.
The 12-man panel headed by Walid Jibril would first meet before inviting the presidential aspirants for screening as required by the party.
It was gathered that the board of trustees had already contacted all the 13 PDP presidential aspirants for the proposed screening.
