The Senator representing Rivers South-East senatorial district in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe, has identified politics of hate and bitterness as major causes of underdevelopment in Rivers State, predicting that it would completely destroy the state if politicians fail to give unity a chance.
Senator Abe said this on Monday in Port Harcourt at an interactive forum organized by Movement for Positive Change.
The senator wondered why the Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, did not call him (Abe) a traitor when he was supporting his governorship ambition in 2007, adding that he would not join issues with the transport minister.
Abe was reacting to the minister’s statement at the weekend where the minister said that he is not Abe’s leader, adding that traitors are not his followers.

The minister also said that he doubts if Abe is still a member of the APC.
But Abe said: “I was in former Governor Odili’s cabinet as his commissioner for information and I fully supported Amaechi to be Rivers State governor against the wishes of Dr Odili as at that time.
“Amaechi did not call me a traitor, now that I too want to be the governor of our state, he is calling me a traitor, I will not join issues with him,” Abe said.
The senator also advocated the need to focus on education, maintaining that if elected as governor, he will prioritize human capacity development.
