The Pride of Rivers tactician says he is confident that his wards can re-enact their old form in the Federation Cup again this season.
Rivers United head coach, Stanley Eguma has boasted that their awesome record in the Federation Cup makes them among the leading contenders for the competition’s diadem.
The Pride of Rivers won the competition four times was Dolphins and Eagles Cement respectively and Eguma revealed that it is natural that they among the favourites for the competition again this term because of their consistency.
He pointed out that Rivers United are looking forward to lifting the Federation Cup again this year after some near misses in recent seasons.
It was a big test for the team. I think my players tried,” Eguma told the media.
“They did well today and Akwa United also played very well but we didn’t give up until the end. I think with the character my boys showed against them I must commend their effort. It was a good test for my boys.
“We are looking forward to the Federation Cup trophy because we know it is possible with the team we have now and the level of motivation from the State Government. We are looking up to the trophy and nothing short of it.
“We know that all the teams in the competition have the same aspirations of wanting to win the trophy and I think we are also part of the contenders and we have a very bright chance of lifting it. Our past achievements in the competition speak for us and we are going to do more.
“One of the teams that later changed to Rivers United; Dolphins have a good history in the Federation Cup in the past and it can’t be any different this year. We are going to put in all to see that we come out as winners.”
