Magistrate grants 5 accused bail after robbing Policewoman in Port Harcourt

No fewer than five crime suspects popularly called “one chance” are standing trial before a Port Harcourt magistrate court presided by S.D Andrew-Jaja for allegedly stealing the sum of 205, 000 naira from a Deputy Superintendent of Police, Matilda Jumbo.

The accused persons who include Destiny Azuonwu, Ikechuwu Chuku, Chinaza Njoku, Achilam Ogugbuaja and Chika Chindah were said to have allegedly committed the offence along Rumuola/Rumuokwuta road in Port Harcourt.

The suspects who pleaded not guilty before the court was however granted bail with the sum of 100, 000 naira each with one surety in like sum.

Shortly after the case was adjourned till October 23, 2018, for hearing, counsel to the five accused persons, Loving Akwu said the burden of proof lies within the complainant.

Akwu said: “We are waiting for the complainant to open her case on next adjourned date.

“At the end of the trial, it is left for the court to decide whether my clients are guilty or not”
