Cultists kill 90-year-old in Emohua

Hoodlums suspected to be cult members have killed a 90-year-old man on Wednesday after burning down his house.

The victim simply identified as Woke Assor was said to hail from Egbeda in Emohua local government.

According to sources, killing sparked panic in the community as locals could not ascertain the reason behind the murder.

Woke was said to be the oldest man in the area and had always preached peace in the community before his demise.

The Chairman of Egbeda Community Development Committee, Ukwoha Omereji, condemned the killing of Woke and described it as worrisome.

Ukwoha explained that leaders in the area had been meeting to ensure that peace reigned in the community

“The reason for the killing is still unknown. The man was over 90 years old,” Ukwoha said.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni, said the oldest man in the community died when two rival cults clashed in the community and set houses ablaze.

“It was during the clash that the house where the victim was staying was set on fire. The man, due to his age, could not escape, but died inside the house.

“The police have begun investigation into the incident with a view to arresting those behind the death of the old man and bringing them to justice,” Omoni said.
