A convocation mass ceremony was held at St. Augustine Catholic Chaplaincy to commemorate this year’s convocation by the management, staff and students of Ignatius Ajuru University, Rumuolumemi, Port Harcourt.
Speaking to newsmen at the end of the mass, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Ozo- Mekuri Ndimele, said that the mass is to seek Gods favour and blessing for the one week filled activities to commemorate the 2018 convocation ceremony, adding that “only God can take us through”
He said: “This year’s convocation will be unique because for the first time, the governor of the state, Governor E.N Wike will be on ground. Secondly, the former president of the country, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, will also be attending and the institution will be given an award to Pastor David Ibiyeomie, the Pastor of Salvation Ministry, and the Pastor David will be on ground to receive his award. So we are quite happy that they are willing to come here”.
The Vice-Chancellor added that about four thousand eight hundred and forty-one (4841) students will be convocating in Masters, Diploma and bachelor degrees this year.
Also, the registrar of the university, Mrs Hope K. Kue-Ikoro, used the medium to appreciate the chaplaincy for putting together the convocation service.
She urged the entire body of the institution to work together, “it is not the time for anyone to sit on the fence, considering what this convocation means to us”.
On his part, Dr Kenneth Nweke, Associate Prof. Department of Political Science and Acting Director, in the university investment of the institution, said the dedication service will Harald the activities leading to Saturday’s convocation ceremony.
“So it is important that the university community gathered, to allow God to take preeminence in the activities that are coming up in the week “.
