Gunmen kill soldiers, policeman in Abua

At least four persons were killed and 5 others left with several degrees of injuries on Monday in a failed attempt to kidnap expatriates at the Sterling oil exploration site at Ogbemakoku/Iyak in Abua-Odual Local Government Area of Rivers state.

Two soldiers, one policeman and one identified civilian were left dead after gunmen opened fire at the security agents guarding the site.

Theportcitynews gathered that gunmen numbering over 15, stormed the site at about 11 in the morning in a bid to abduct expatriates working on the site.

A source told theportcitynews that security agencies guarding the site repelled the attack, adding that the soldiers and policeman killed were taken unawares.

“Nobody knew but we just heard gunfire everywhere leading to everyone taking cover. They were over 15 and fully armed” he said.

Attacks on security agents have increased in the state in recent months with at least 15 police officers losing their lives in July alone. There has also been an increase in kidnapping in recent months.

The Police public relations officer, Nnamdi Omoni, declined comments on the matter.
