Jerome Eke, the member representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, has denied claims emanating from some quarters that he has endorsed a successor.
Eke stated that he is still in the race for the seat of Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency and has no intention of quitting neither has he endorsed any candidate from the PDP or any other party to run in his stead.
This is coming days after an audio recording was circulated in social media saying that chief Eke has endorsed a successor for the 2019 elections.
However, in a statement issued by his media aide and made available to theportcitynews, the chief said such rumours were products of political jobbers.
The statement read in part:
“There was never a time Hon. Eke endorsed any candidate neither from the PDP nor any other party as alleged by the author of the audio. The member of House of Reps also enjoined all PDP leaders in Etche to be wary of the boys around them parading themselves as media aides and call them to order before it becomes late. Noting that by the time they succeed in their evil machination of destroying the party in the LGA they will go back to their party the APC abandoning them to fate.
“The members of the public especially PDP members should note that these social media urchins were and still members of the opposition APC who infiltrated the PDP in Etche to cause disharmony amongst members of PDP especially the leadership in Etche in order to destabilise the party for their party the APC to have easy ride during the forthcoming general elections.
“These urchins during the last general election launched several invectives and casted several aspersions against and on the PDP and all the candidates of the party, especially the then president Jonathan who was then the presidential standard-bearer of the party, our amiable Governor who then was the party’s flag bearer for governorship election and High Chief Jerome Eke who was the party standard bearer for Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency. Having failed in their first mission, they decided to infiltrate the media space of the PDP, but unknown to those using them against fellow party men they are out to destroy the party to the advantage of the opposition APC where they truly belong.
“Hon. Jerome Eke as a committed, dedicated and a loyal party man cannot beat the gun or go ahead of the party PDP, therefore at the appropriate time he will make his intentions to run for a second term to the public and that will be as soon the leader of our great party in the state, His Excellency the Governor of Rivers State of Rivers State makes his intentions known then Hon. Eke will follow suit as a good follower.
“The members of the public and indeed people of Etche ethnic nationality is advised to disregard the malicious and deceptive audio as it is misleading, deceptive and handy work of traducers and enemies of Etche.
“We, therefore, ask members of the public to disregard the evil machinations of these mischief markers and propagandists and at the same time call on one Ikechi Bright who is the author of the mischievous doctored audio to within 48 hours tender unreserved apology to
(1) the good people of Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency
(2) the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)
and
(3) Hon. High Chief. Jerome Amadi Eke
in all the social media spaces or channels, one local tabloid and one national daily or face legal action at the event of failure to comply”
