Major-General Jamil Sarham, on Monday, officially assumed duty as the new General Officer Commanding, 6 Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt.
Sarham took over from Major-General Musa Yusuf, who was recently redeployed to 81 Division of the Army in Lagos.
Sarham, before his redeployment to the 6 Division, was the Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Infantry, Jaji, Kaduna State.
Delivering his farewell speech, the immediate past GOC, Major-General Musa Yusuf, described his journey to the 6 Division, Port Harcourt as eventful.
Yusuf explained that he was able to ensure that formations and units under his watch attained the acceptable standard of professionalism and regimentation.
The former GOC of the Division said he was able to achieve such feat through the introduction of various training, some of which were alien to most of the personnel.
“These activities were conceptualised to reawaken all towards ensuring that the formation directions are in order with the Chief of Army Staff vision of having the professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of our constitutional roles.
“I am fulfilled that many of you are taking more interest to enhance your professionalism and regimentation since the introduction of this training activity for the formations and units of 6 Division,” he added.
Yusuf, who called on officers and men of the Division to give the new GOC the same support they gave to him, stated that he was optimistic that his successor (Sarham) would build on the achievements on the ground to make officers and men of the Division better personnel of the Army.
He expressed the need for the personnel of the Division not to relent in projecting the image of Nigerian Army.
