Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-0 to take home the England Community Shield which marks the opening game of a new Premier League football season on Sunday evening.
Nigerian duo of Victor Moses and Tammy Abraham both started on the substitute bench for Chelsea while neither of Lukas Nmecha, Tom Dele-Bashiru or Nathanael Ogbeta was named among the Citizens squad that made the short trip to Wembley.
Particularly, Nmecha’s absence from the squad entirely in spite of his awe-inspiring performances in pre-season could only mean a loan move could be on the cards for the starlet, with English clubs West Brom, Blackburn & Swansea reportedly interested in his services.
Abraham came on for Alvaro Morata in the 69th minute while Moses replaced Pedro Ledesma a minute shy of the 80th mark.
With the Blues already trailing by two goals when the duo were introduced, Abraham could have halved the deficit six minutes from time when Moses slipped him in but Vincent Kompany made a big tackle to thwart the 20-year-old.
A brace from Argentine striker, Sergio Aguero in each half was all Pep Guardiola’s side needed to down their opposition.
