Chelsea to loan out Nigerian Striker

By all indications, young Nigerian striker Ike Ugbo is set to be loaned out by Chelsea before the close of the transfer window on Thursday, August 9.

The 19-year-old has been training with the Blues loan group since the start of pre-season training.

Chelsea believe he has to be sent out on loan for the third time in his career to get playing opportunities, rather than representing their U23 team in the Premier League 2.

Last season, Ugbo appeared in 35 matches in all competitions for loan clubs Barnsley FC and Milton Keynes Dons, scoring three goals.

The London-born frontman started his career at Chelsea as an U10 and has scored an impressive 62 goals in 102 matches for Chelsea’s U18-U23 teams to date.

Though Ugbo is an England U20 international, he has been approached by the Nigeria Football Federation to swap allegiance from his country of birth to Nigeria.
