The public relations officer of the Rivers State police command, Nnamdi Omoni has confirmed that the killing of Wobo Wagbara, a Vigilante leader in Nkpo Village, Rumuolemini, Obio Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Could be a cult related attack.
It will be recalled that on Wednesday night, some armed men suspected to be cultists ambushed and killed the leader of a vigilante group identified as Wobo Wagbara in Nkpo village, Rumuolumeni in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
Nnamdi Omoni while speaking to Journalists in Port Harcourt said a preliminary investigation has shown that the attack could be cult related.
“The incident at Nkpo Village in Rumuolemini, where Wobo Wagbara was killed by unidentified gunmen.
“We are not conclusively saying that the late boy was a cult member or not. Though preliminary investigation as conducted by the Divisional Police officer, the DPO in charge of Rumuolemini police station is that it has some cult undertone or that it is a cult related killing.
“But again that will be subject of further investigation as the Commissioner of Police has ordered for an investigation into the matter, and for a serious manhunt for the Killers.
Nnamdi Omoni further advised residents of the area to remain calm and said the police has deployed men to the area.
“We want to allay the fears of the residents of that community, that there is no cause for alarm. We have mobilized our men, no cause for alarm because all hands are on deck.
“We also appeal to the members of the public to be able to come forth, to share with us credible information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. Because we understand that they live here in the neighbourhood, they know them too, so we can nip this in the bud”
