The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), in a statement, has revealed that political parties that allocate 60 per cent of its tickets to youths ahead of the 2019 general election, would get their support.
The statement was made by Comrade Chibuike Echem, the deputy president of (NYCN), while speaking with journalists at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
Echem said the time that youths are being used as thugs during elections only to be dumped by their sponsors after clinching power has come to an end.
He also urged Nigerian youths to come together and take what belongs to them, stating that they constitute the largest segment of the electorate.
Echem, however, said the youth must build and develop themselves first before presenting themselves for elective offices.
“The youth should not just come out to contest because of the enactment of ‘Not too young to run bill’. They should prepare themselves. They should build and develop themselves. They should not just come out to contest because they are eligible to contest,” he said.
While speaking in the same vein, Comrade Innocent Nduanya, said an end has come to the days when youths are used for political biddings.
Nduanya said the youth have the strength and capacity and were poised to tell the governments in the South East that a new leadership of NYCN has come on board.
He assured that they were ready to work with everybody and carry everybody along as long as their strength can allow them.
