Rivers Youths are under attack from F-SARS – Okazu Powers

The immediate past caretaker member/ Supervisor for works, power and housing in Eleme Local Government, Okazu Powers has blasted the Federal Anti Robbery Squad for their constant harassment and intimidation of youths in Rivers State, saying that failure of the police command to call the men of the F-SARS to order is capable of throwing the state into crisis.

Okazu Powers spoke yesterday at the sideline of the protest held by concerned Rivers Youths and the National Youth Council of Nigeria, at the Police command headquarters, Moscow road.

“We gathered to stand against the high level of intimidation we have been experiencing in the hands of the Federal Anti Robbery Squad, F-SARS.

“In Rivers State now as a youth, you cannot be prosperous in peace. If you’re driving through some flashpoints in GRA, Odili Road and you have a good car, you will become a suspect for F-SARS.

“When I mean by a suspect for F-SARS, they will Kidnap you, extort money from you, beat you up. You will see F-SARS officers carrying beards, but yet they cut the beards of citizens. You see them carrying dreadlocks, but when you tell them that you’re a musician or a producer, they will cut off your hair too not minding the fact that it is what you do or what you represent.

“So we’ve been able to make a strong statement with this protest.

“A few days ago, they attacked the SSA on new media to the Governor, and they brandished machetes, beat him up and badly injured him. By the grace of God, Rivers people intervened and saved his life.

“So we have to let the world know that Rivers Youths are not safe in Rivers State. We are suffering in the hands of the F-SARS, and we want the world to come to our aid to make sure that this ugly occurrence does not repeat itself because we are tired. Rivers people are tired of F-SARS.

“They don’t go after armed Robbers, but as a young boy who looks successful, they come after you.

“We want peace in Rivers State, so let them call F-SARS to order.
