The National orientation agency, NOA, in Rivers State has stated that the reckless attitude of some residents in Rivers State is responsible for cases of flooding witnessed in parts of Obio Akpor and some other local government areas in Rivers State recently, according to the state director of the agency.
It will be recalled that Theportcitynews.com in June, ran series of reports on the flooding in Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor that have stalled economic activities and destroyed properties worth millions, especially the Nkpolu, Rumigbo and Ada George areas.
The state director of the National orientation agency wondered why people have continue to dump refuse in drainages while others are building on natural water path.
The director, Oliver Worlugbum, however, called on the Rivers State Government to enforce sanitation laws in the state.
He also appealed to the ministry of environment to begin the removal of structures built on natural water path in Port Harcourt and Obio Akpor Local Government Areas, so as to put an end to cases of flash flooding.
