Chelsea react to Nigeria’s 2:1 loss to Argentina

Chelsea has reacted to the Russia 2018 World Cup exit the Super Eagles suffered in the hands of Argentina at Saint Petersburg on Tuesday.

The former Premier League champions have been keeping a close eye on their players in the Nigerian colours, such as Kenneth Omeruo, Victor Moses, Ola Aina and even Mikel Obi, who left the club two seasons ago.

After the Tuesday’s match, the club said yesterday that they were impressed by the performance of Omeruo despite not doing to well to stop Lionel Messi from scoring the first goal in the 2-1 loss.

In their review of the game, Chelsea wrote on their official website, ”This one will perhaps hurt the most for a young side who showed so much promise, led by Chelsea legend John Mikel Obi in midfield and bolstered at the back by the impressive Kenneth Omeruo.

”Still, plenty of work was required and Omeruo in the back three and Moses at right wing-back defended with diligence.”

Omeruo, who made his second start of the World Cup against Argentina, was replaced by Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi in the 90th minute in a tactical substitution.

Moses in the other hand played the entire 90 minutes.
