The Rivers State Government has admitted claims by the All Progressive Congress, APC, it sent a delegation to meet with the Inspector General of Police on behalf of Governor Wike.

The state’s Commissioner of Information and communication, Emma Okah, told the press that the Elders volunteered to mediate over the face-off between Governor Nyesom Wike and the IGP, Ibrahim Idris.

“It is to the credit of the leaders and Elders of Rivers State, who in their wisdom decided to intervene in the ongoing misunderstanding and friction between the Rivers State Government and some arm of the Nigerian Police.

“As much as we know, the Governor of Rivers State at all times is under oath to defend and protect the interest of the people of Rivers State, and we’re certain that he has done so far, and so well.

Emma Okah further said that the move is to allow for cohesion between the State Government and security agencies in the state.

“It became necessary because there has been this misunderstanding between a section of the police and the Government, which is now affecting quite a lot of other things, particularly the issue of security in the state.

“So our Elders decided that it was important for them to intervene. This intervention is necessary not because anybody is under sentence of death, or anybody is facing any kind of threat, but it is important for cohesion, national-building, and understanding of the roles of Government.
