The Ken Saro Wiwa Associates, an Ogoni socio-political group has appealed to the Rivers State Government to provide shelters for indigenes of the 14 communities in Ogoni, who were displaced by the military Government twenty years ago.
The National Coordinator of the group, Gani Topba, on the occasion of the World Refugee day informed the press that there are thousands of Ogoni’s who have been made refugees in their own land.
“You know that 14 communities were destroyed and those people are still suffering in different communities in Ogoni Land which the Governor of Rivers State had set up a committee to look into their matter.
“I don’t know and Ogoni people don’t know how far the committee has gone into building infrastructures so that these people can return back to their communities.
“In the communities, there are no schools, there is nothing. The places have been turned to bushes. So we expect the Rivers State Government to put it in their budget to build brand new communities.
“The Federal Government and the state Government need to work together and build those communities.
