Ahaoda FRSC calls for collaboration against reckless driving

The Unit Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ahoada Unit Command, ACC Eze Obeten, has called on traditional rulers, political leaders, driver’s unions and all other stakeholders to join in the on-going sensitization against reckless driving on Nigeria roads.

He made this call when he paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Ahoada Local Government Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, HRM Eze Dr.Felix Enene Otuwarikpo, Eze Igbu Upata III at his Ihuaba palace.

He attributed many accidents on Nigerian roads to the reckless driving of drivers.

“The purpose of my visit to the Chairman of Ahoada East Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, also the Eze Igbu Upata, is to brief him on the activities of the Corps and to equally solicit for your support in order to reduce accidents to the barest minimum in the Unit‘’

He recalled the cordial relationship existing between the FRSC and the Igbu Upata Kingdom, while using the opportunity to inform them of the Corps recruitment exercise ongoing for qualified Nigerians.

He however used the occasion to express his dissatisfaction on the activities of road users, particularly the motorcyclists popularly known as “Okada riders” for not adhering to safety rules and regulations of the highway, stressing that motorcyclist ride recklessly, and their attitude has led to so many accidents which had resulted in untimely deaths.

The Unit Commander said that every road user has to be safety conscious so as to reduce the number of crashes, noting that the Corps will soon embark on sensitization visit to schools within the Ahoada Unit Command.

Obeten who led other senior officers of the FRSC on the visit, said plans are underway to relocate their office back to Ahoada.

Recall that at the peak of security challenges in the area, the staff of the FRSC temporarily moved their office to Akinima, headquarters of Ahoada West Local Government Area.

On his part, Eze Otuwarikpo, commended the FRSC boss and appealed that they should relocate their office back to Ahoada being their official base.

He assured them of the Council’s support to make Ahoada Unit Command an envy of others in Rivers State.

“We will not relent in our efforts, we will continue to support you at any time by providing the logistics and ensuring a purposeful relationship for a zero tolerance accident in Ahoada Unit.”
