Philip Gwada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the rescheduled chairmanship election in Jaba local government area of Kaduna state.
Grace Doyaro, the returning officer, who announced the result on Thursday, said Gwada secured 17,967 votes to defeat Benjamin Jok, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 7,401 votes.
Dayaro described the election as free and fair, devoid of rancour, adding that the PDP won all the 10 councillors seat in the local government.
During the primaries to determine its chairmanship candidates in the eight local governments of the southern senatorial district in Kaduna, Gwada got 185 votes to beat his rival, Ibrahim Danka, who scored 51 votes.
On May 12, 2018, elections were cancelled in two out of the 23 local governments of Kaduna state due to security concerns.
According to reports, elections in Jaba and Kaura local governments ran into hitches when in the process of distribution, hoodlums hijacked the materials and left with them.
Officials of the electoral commission were said to have discontinued with the process in the two local governments.
The elections were therefore cancelled.
