Following the announcement by Rivers State Government that it has launched loan schemes for civil servants in certain grade levels in the state’s civil service, some civil servants have reacted to the said scheme and wondered why the state government would prefer to issue them loans when the same government is yet to implement outstanding promotions, gratuity and death benefits.
Speaking to our correspondent, a top-ranking civil servant who did not want her name in print, said the state government’s plan to give loan to civil servants is an insult to their intelligence.
She noted that the Nyesom Wike-led government ought to have used the money to settle backlogs of promotional arrears, gratuity and death benefits.
Another top civil servant claimed that some civil servants have been in a particular salary grade level for over ten years without any effort by the state government to improve it.
He further advised that the government should channel the money into seeing to the welfare of civil servants by clearing all pending promotional arrears, gratuity and death benefits.
