Nigerian Navy Hands Over Vessel, Nine Suspects to EFCC

The Nigerian Navy, NNS Delta, has handed over nine suspects and a vessel allegedly involved in illegal oil bunkering to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The suspects: Friday Ojogbeli, Captain; Samuel Chidi Akomas, Chief Engineer; Lucky Okpowo, Chief Mate; and six others are all Nigerians.

Commodore I. A. Dewu, Commander NNS Delta at the handing over in Warri, stated that the suspects were onboard the vessel, MT NIPAL when they were intercepted by men of NNS Delta at Afremo Oil Field while siphoning crude oil on January 30, 2018. The Commander further stated that the vessel was laden with 386,556 M T crude oil.

Receiving the nine suspects and the Vessel on behalf of the Commission, Richard Ogberagha, a Senior Detective Superintendent, said the Commission would do a painstaking investigation to ensure that those found culpable were brought to book.
