Akwa United could move up to fourth position on the Nigeria Professional Football League table if they beat Enyimba International in a rescheduled matchday 20 fixture on Wednesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The Promise Keepers who are sixth on the log with 32 points from 21 games will hope to build on their impressive home form to go all out for a win against CAF Confederation Cup campaigners Enyimba who are ninth on the table albeit with three games in hand.
When both sides clashed in the first leg in Calabar more than a month ago, the Uyo based side were forced to a goalless draw by their hosts but they have since reinforced their squad with some quality players to ensure they mount a successful title challenge.
Coach Abdu Maikaba may unleash three former Enyimba players Ezekiel Bassey, Kelly Kester and Ifeanyi Ede now in the books of Akwa United against their former employers.
The team’s shyness in front of goal have been addressed by the technical crew following their eight goals in three matches on their way to lifting the Akwa Ibom State FA Cup for a record nine times in ten years on Sunday.
Coach Abdu Maikaba who is an assistant to Enyimba’s Paul Aigbogun at the national U-20 team the Flying Eagles, is optimistic that his boys will deliver the goodies at the end of 90 minutes on Wednesday.
“The game against Enyimba is an important game for us because we know where victory will take us to on the log. We know our opponents very well and we have prepared very well for them.We have committed players who are always ever ready to bring honour to the club and I believe that the game on Wednesday will encourage us to get back to where we truly want to be.
“We are in a very crucial stage in the league and for us to achieve our objective at the end of the season, we have to do our very best to win all our matches irrespective of where the matches are played. We have carefully worked on the confidence level of our players especially in front of goal and I can assure our fans and supporters that we will make them proud again”Said Maikaba.
