In line with children’s day celebration, Rivers State first Lady, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, has urged Rivers State Children to take their education seriously as it lays solid foundations to becoming responsible citizens in the future.
Justice Wike made this known while addressing Children during the 2018 Children’s Day Celebration at Isaac Boro Park in Port Harcourt on Sunday, stressing that education is key to children’s progress in the society.
She stated that once children become educated, everything will find its place as they will be empowered to be responsible citizens.
The first Lady cautioned the children on the need to be careful and mindful of the friends that they keep. This, she said, is because evil communication corrupts good manners, adding that everyone has a right to come into your space.
Justice Wike also prayed for God’s blessing on all Rivers Children as they make progress in life, imploring God to establish the children and to also protect them from harm.
“You will live long to fulfill all your days and everything that God has planned for you to achieve”, Justice Nyesom-Wike prayed.
She opined that to ensure that children are more responsible across the state and alive to their responsibilities, Rivethics clubs will be introduced in schools.
Justice Nyesom-Wike said that children are very special gifts from God and must be nurtured for the good of society.
“Children should be celebrated and on a day like this, we create awareness on the importance of children, their rights, their responsibilities, their education and their general welfare”, she said.
The Rivers Governor’s Wife noted that it is because of the importance of children that the United Nations and African Union outlined principles that will aid their protection and development.
The Children’s Day celebration in Rivers State witnessed lectures by motivational speakers and the distribution of life-changing books to the children.
