Hon. Ojukaye Flag Amachree, a former Chairman of Asari-Toru local government area, has emerged the new Rivers State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.
Amachree, a staunch loyalist of the former governor and current Minister of Transportation and leader of the party in the state, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, will replace the outgoing chairman, Dr. Davies Ikanya.
The newly elected Chairman is currently facing trial for murder at the Rivers State High Court, Port Harcourt, a charge insiders say is politically motivated.
TPCN gathered that the Senator Magnus Abe’s faction of the party did not participate in the congress as it had obtained an interlocutory order from the Rivers State High Court which stopped the party’s congresses.
Other elected officials of the Rivers State executive of the party who were announced by the party include SN Azu who was elected as the State Deputy Chairman while Emeka Beke was returned as the state secretary of the party.
The APC state congress which commenced at 6am. On Monday at Elikohia Town Hall, also returned Chris Finebone as the State Publicity Secretary and Cyprian Chuku as the APC state Legal Adviser.
Okalikpe Napoleon was elected the Assistant State Secretary and Imie Benson was elected the state youth leader.
Declaring the results, the APC State Congress Committee Chairman, James Majit, commended members of the party for conducting themselves peacefully during the Congress and tasked them to be more proactive in taking the party to greater heights.
However, in his acceptance speech, the newly elected state chairman who spoke on behalf of the elected state executives, promised to work for the the unity and victory of the party in all elections in 2019.
Amachree said: “Quickly, I would want to thank God Almighty for this opportunity and for today. I would also want to thank the leader of our great party in the state and in the South-South, the Hon. Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, for this wonderful opportunity.
“I also thank the immediate past chairman of this party, Dr. Davies Ikanya, for the wonderful job he did. He has made my job easy. With my emergence, we will do everything within our power in making sure that come 2019, we will take over Brick House.
Also speaking, the Director General of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, and the 2015 governorship candidate of APC, Dakuku Peterside, stated that the success of the congress is a proof that victory awaits the party in 2019.
Peterside opined that the emergence of the party’s new executives is a move to liberate Rivers people from the government of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by Chief Nyesom Wike, which he described as a failed government.
