Renowned Niger Delta activist, Annkio Briggs has reacted to the invasion of the Rivers State High Court by thugs said to be members of the All Progressives Congress, saying that Rivers State is ripe for internal Self-determination.
Mrs. Briggs also maintained that Rivers State belongs to Rivers people not the ruling party, the APC.
Reacting to the Friday invasion of the High Court premises by thugs said to be loyal to the minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi through her Facebook account, Mrs. Briggs said that if Senator Magnus Abe can not take his case to a competent court of law in his state to seek for justice as justified by law even when he is a member of the ruling party, then where is the hope for the majority of Rivers people who are not members of the ruling party?
She said that the plan for 2019 is already concluded in favor of the power at the center, stating that Rivers State people must be free to make their choices. She added that some years ago, courts in Rivers State were shut down because of politics and power. It was wrong then it will be wrong now, she said.
“There is a duely elected governor and government in Rivers State, The determination to destabilize Rivers State, and put Rivers State under continuous tension, where court premises are turned into battle grounds is unacceptable and must be condemned totally.
“Are judges and lawyers to wear bullet proof vests under their suits, gowns and wigs.?
” Are judges, magistrates and lawyers to carry AK47 to defend themselves in their court premises because someone or some people insists that it must be their ways in Rivers State or no way.?
” Anyone who does not want Rivers people to live at peace because they want to give a false impression of being on ground in Rivers State to their party or political leaders in Abuja should bear in mind that if the majority of Rivers State people wanted them in 2015 their party would have won in 2015,
“Rivers State is not at the center of Nigeria ruling party. If it is true that what is reported happened in the court premises today then it is horrifying and dangerous.
Mrs. Briggs equally added that all Rivers people should take note of the danger of the invasion of the state High Court implies, saying: “states of the leaders of APC are calm, it is foolish and must be unacceptable to Rivers people that any of our sons and daughters will want to set our beloved state on fire to gain political accolade from the masters of their party.
“Indigenes of Katsina did not set their state on fire, that is the state of the President of Nigeria,
SONS & DAUGHTERS OF RIVERS STATE SHOULD CALM DOWN UNLESS THEY PLAN TO RELOCATE TO KATSINA STATE WHEN ALL THIS IS OVER.
Have your political differences, and if you must shoot guns, go shoot in your houses in Abuja”
“RIVERS STATE DESERVES TO HAVE POLITICAL PEACE AND WE MUST INSIST ON IT, POLITICIANS DONT OWN RIVERS STATE.
“I call on Rivers people to judge for themselves and decide who and what political party is putting our state and lives at this great risk because of political power.
“At this rate no one should sit on the fence, we must tell truth to power, if Katsina is at peace and if Rivers people can’t go and shoot in court premises in Katsina, how is it that some Rivers people think their political ambition is worth the blood of any Rivers State indigenes.
“Political recklessness is not acceptable.
“I have no doubt that some misguided faceless individuals will come out and attack me, with lies, and insults for this position,
it may hurt my feelings but it will never stop me from telling them and their masters the truth.
“Anyone who puts the peace of Rivers State and the lives of Rivers State people for their political ambition will be brougjt down by the power of God who sees and knows the evil and wicked plans of everyone”
