The Rivers State Internal Revenue service has sealed the headquarters of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC in Port Harcourt for alleged tax evasion.
The leader of the tax enforcement agency, Manson Endebor, said the action was taken following the alleged failure of commission to remit tax owed to the Rivers State Government.
He said the exercise will continue on Thursday, to ensure that all companies operating in the state pay there taxes.
“Why we are taking this action is that, there vendors stormed our office, to insist that we give them credit notes. We can’t give credit notes to somebody who has not paid us tax. We have been having promises over this period, over a year now.
“So they are it again. They made a promise that approvals have been made for this payment. Unfortunately we got in to see the excessive result that we have, so we’ve been here. So many people have been coming in and using every manner of words to talk to us. But we are here.
“All we insist is that we must collect the hundreds of millions of naira that the NDDC is owing the Rivers State Government”
