Clause that allows Police to approve the operations of neighborhood watch safety Corps to be amended

The Clause which gives the Nigerian Police force the right to approve the operations of the neighborhood watch Corp in Rivers state will be amended according to Governor Nyesom Wike.

Speaking after the inauguration of the neighborhood watch safety Corp board at the Government House, Governor Wike said that members of the opposition are sabotaging his effort to ensure a peaceful atmosphere in Rivers State.

“For me, I have no problem, I will tell Assembly to amend the law not to allow the police have any role again.

“You are doing something to help our state, to see that there is peace in the area, people are working round the clock to make sure that you don’t achieve it. The same people who say they love our State.

“They say oh, why are they going to carry arms. We say no, they’re not carryin any heavy arms. This light arms must be approved by the police.

“Now if a criminal knows that you’re the one giving out information about him, will the criminal not come after you? If he comes after you, what do you do?.

Governor Wike further advised the board to recruit only credible persons as members of the Corp.

“Government will give you all the necessary support you require to kick-start the operations of this agency. And like I said, please don’t be swayed by any blackmail.

“I want to plead that those you are going to employ to work, are those who have the interest of Rivers State at heart.

“We should have people who should give you information on time, before the thing happens”
