The Care-taker Committee Chairman of Ahoada East, Hon Dame Mrs Beatrice Awala, has assured the people of Ahoada East of her administration’s ability to fight crime in the area.
Awala gave the assurance Wednesday in an emergency security meeting held at the Council secretariat. In her remarks, she decried the recent cases of criminality that have been reported; ranging from kidnapping and rape.
While she condemned the acts and described them as barbaric, she assured the people that sanity will return to the area. ” I’m equal to the task of fishing out the criminals”, she said.
She further advised the citizens to help provide security agencies with relevant information to enable them serve better.
While lending his voice, SA to the governor on security matters, Hon Victor Dennis Ekaro, urged the security agencies not to honor calls from anybody requesting the release of any criminal in their custody. He also used the medium to call on community leaders to help identify the bad eggs, hinting that whoever is found guilty of kidnapping in Rivers State will face death sentence as provided by the law of the state. ” As government, we cannot fold our hands and watch criminals operate”, he assured.
In their separate speeches, the head of security agencies in Ahoada East; the Area Commander, Ahoada police command, the JTF commander and the Divisional Police Officer called for collaboration from the people to enable the Law Enforcement Agencies serve them better.
While they promised to improve on their constitutional responsibilities, they hinted that logistics is a major challenge. They used the medium to thank HRM, Eze Upata the 3rd, Eze Dr. Felix Otuwarikpo for his support. They also maintained that anyone who requests for the release of a suspected kidnapper would be arrested.
Similarly, Eze Dr. Felix Otuwarikpo, Eze Upata the 3rd, reiterated his readiness to get his domain and by extension Ahoada East rid of criminals. ” I’ll wear jeans and T-shirt to join the police chase criminals in Ahoada East “, he declared.
The monarch also confirmed that the Upata people have taken a position on how to handle communities and families that harbour criminals.
The meeting which drew attendance from traditional rulers, security agencies, community Chiefs, youth leaders women leaders and CDC chairmen was well attended .
A communique on zero tolerance for insecurity was signed at the end of the meeting.
