Injury dashes Obafemi Martins World cup hope

The hope of former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins to be part of the Super Eagles team to Russia 2018 has been dashed.

Martins Formerly of Seattle Sounders, sustained a hamstring injury in the Shanghai Shenhua Asia champions league clash with Kashima Antlers of Japan.

The player was subbed off early in the game after he fell to the ground due to his torn hamstring.

The club announced his absence via its website on Wednesday night.

The fast paced forward had posed a challenge through his performances to secure a late call up into the team ahead of the world cup but with the injury sustained, that hope seems to have been dashed.

His absence will surely affect the club following his exploits with the team since joining them.
