Opinion: The Financial Times jamboree and Governor Wike’s poor verdict.

Uwuma Precious

Governor Nyesom Wike told Financial Times that Rivers state has “the highest returns on investment” in Nigeria. I’ll gladly believe my governor because:

1. I want to be a proud Rivers man.
2. I don’t know the indices he used to arrive at his verdict.

One thing I know however is that more than 60% of radio adverts in Rivers State are about politics and not about investments relating to jobs, goods and services or a thriving business environment.

Either the Elders’ Forum of this ethnic group is calling on H. E. Chief Barrister Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike to run again or the Youths of the other ethnic group is calling on H. E. Chief Barrister Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike to run again.

It’s either this group has warned that so so and so person must desist from parading himself as the only candidate representing this group or party in the next election or so so and so Women Organization of so so and so is calling on their son, Honourable this and that to run for so and so position in the next elections or their wombs will all develope fibroids.

It’s like market place filled with the politically insane. Just tune in to the radio there and you’ll get your fill of the nonsense.

The way the adverts rain, you will be forgiven if you think they fall out of a politically advanced or conscious society. It has nothing to do with political advancement or awareness but everything to do with sycophancy and all the rascality that unscrupulous political inclination brings.

Rivers state is the very bedrock of political rascality. There’s hardly any voter or politician that won’t be willing to trade votes, break heads or kill for votes and the previlleges of power in Rivers state.

Listen to the governor talk. He epitomizes everything about politics in Rivers state which has rascality as its watchword. It took great luck and lots of human lives to appease the dangerous fallout of the 2015 elections.

In my natal town alone, more than 20 persons lost their lives to that insanity between 2015 and 2016 and the entire Orashi axis is yet to recover from the rain is mayhem.

Rivers state is a shame in politics. The politicians there are of the worst bred, dangerous, greedy, unscrupulous, liars, jobbers, instigators of violence and enemies of civility. And the man at the helms leads. Listen when he talks and judge for yourself.
