RSIEC Fixes date for Local Government Elections in Rivers State

The Rivers State Electoral Commission, RSIEC, has fixed June 16th, 2018 as the date for the conduct of the Local Government Elections in the state.

The Chief Electoral Commissioner of RSIEC, Chukwunonye Uriri, disclosed this in Port Harcourt at a stakeholders meeting, with leaders of political parties in the State.

He appealed to political parties willing to take part in the Elections to play by the rules.

“By the powers conferred on me, as enshrined in the Rivers State Independent Electoral law No 2, of 2018, I, therefore, declare Saturday, the 16th day of June 2018 as Local Government Election here in Rivers State.

“I appeal to you all to abide by the rules of the game and avoid violence in all its Ramification.

“The right to vote is a constitutional right. We must encourage one other to turn up en mass and ensure law-abiding and well-meaning people are elected into office”

Campaigns for the Local Government Elections is expected to begin from the 17th of May, 2018 to 13th of June 2018.
