Boat mishap claims 8 in Etche.

A boat mishap at Umuanyagu in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State has claimed the lives of 8 persond.

The incident which took place on Sunday 11th March, 2018 during the opening of a hotel along Umuanyagu/Okomoko – Chokocho road and is situated close to a dredging site, claimed the lives of eight people including the wife of the owner of the hotel.

The hotel which is owned by one Chinaka Ahunanya had been shut a year ago when his son also drowned in the same river.

However, Mr. Chinaka, it was learnt, leased operations of the hotel to another man popularly known as John Win, who hails from Okoroagu in Etche Local Government Area.

As at the time of filling this report, divers have been able to recover the bodies of only two of the drowned persons which have been buried at the river bank according to Etche traditions.
