Niger Delta Youths, Contractors, protest in front of NDDC Office

A coalition of Niger Delta Youths, Volunteers, and Contractors on Thursday, staged a protest at the Portharcourt office of the Niger Delta Development Commission at Aba road.

The protesters, armed with placards demanded the sack of the Managing Director of the Commission, Nsima Ekere.

The protesters accused the MD of using federal power to silence youths in the region.

One of the Contractors who spoke to TCPN said that after the had delivered on their contracts, the Commission refused to pay back the funds used for the contracts.

He said that since Nsima’s administration came on board, they have not paid contractors that delivered jobs, they have not paid volunteers that volunteered for the commission and other empowerment like water hyacinth that they use to empower the people of the region.

He said that the people of the region are not okay with the way they handle the NDDC affairs saying that the commission should do something to avert unforeseen circumstances.

Another protester who identified his name as Belema said that NDDC has now become a party where those that belong to a certain party enjoy the dividends from the commission.

TPCN attempt to speak with cooperate affairs manager of the commission was unsuccessful as security men at the NDDC gate denied us entry.
