By John Diidi.

Two of Rivers State’s representatives in the Nigerian Professional Football league suffered contrasting results in the match day 3 fixtures.

The ‘Pride’ of Rivers, Rivers United defeated Kano Pillars, 2-1 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium to climb to 8th position on the league table.

Rivers United striker Guy Kuemian scored his second goal of the season to give Rivers United the win.

After a seemingly quiet opening minutes, Midfielder Bamba Bakari’s volley gave the pride of Rivers the lead in 20 minutes through an Ojobo pin point cross, before Kano Pillars Junior Lokosa levelled the scoreline when he pounced on a mistake by Gabriel Olalekan and unleashed a ferocious strike from inside the area.

Kuemian, made sure the home side were the victors when he tapped home Ochewechi Salefu’s cutback in 56minutes.

Meanwhile in Makurdi, debutants Go Round FC fell to Lobi Stars in a game they were expected to have gotten a result judging from their second half performance.

Samad Kadiri’s header from close range in the 31st minute was the goal that eventually won the game for his side (Lobi Stars) at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi.

Go Round now sits in 15th position after 2 defeats from 3 games.

Rivers United will travel next to Akure for a date with Sunshine Stars, while Go Round FC will host Heartland FC at the Krisdera Stadium, in Match Day 4 NPFL midweek games.
