Students and teachers at Community Secondary School, Nkpolu-Oroworukwo, in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, are celebrating the commissioning of a new block of six modern classrooms. This significant infrastructure upgrade is a concerted effort by the Rivers State government, spearheaded by a local lawmaker, to alleviate overcrowding and provide a more conducive learning environment for students.

The project addresses long-standing challenges faced by the school, ensuring that a greater number of students can access quality education in a comfortable and well-equipped setting. The newly constructed classrooms are spacious, well-ventilated, and equipped with essential furnishings, designed to promote effective teaching and learning. The commissioning ceremony, attended by community leaders, education officials, parents, and students, was marked by an atmosphere of joy and gratitude.

The lawmaker representing the constituency reiterated the government’s dedication to investing in education as a cornerstone of societal development. Mr. Godwin Eke, the school principal, expressed immense appreciation. “These new classrooms are a huge blessing. We can now accommodate more students comfortably and provide them with a better learning experience.”

Mrs. Mercy Kalu, a parent, shared her excitement: “My child used to sit on the floor sometimes because of too many students. Now, they have proper desks. This is a big improvement.” She highlighted the impact on her child’s learning. “I can concentrate better now that the classroom isn’t so crowded,” said Chika Ofor, a secondary school student, illustrating the immediate positive change. Chief Okon Amadi, a community elder, praised the initiative. “This is a clear example of good governance and listening to the needs of the people. Our children deserve the best.”

The project also included the renovation of existing facilities and the provision of new sanitation amenities, contributing to an overall improved school environment. Local contractors and laborers were engaged during the construction phase, providing employment opportunities and stimulating the local economy. The Ministry of Education plans to implement regular maintenance schedules for the new structures, ensuring their longevity and sustained benefit to the community.
