Andoni Schools Gets New Furniture and Equipment

In a concerted effort to create more comfortable and effective learning environments, the Rivers State Government has launched a renewed drive to supply modern school furniture and essential educational equipment to public primary and secondary schools across Andoni Local Government Area. This comprehensive initiative aims to replace dilapidated desks and chairs, provide up-to-date classroom accessories, and ensure that every student has a conducive space to learn. The program in Andoni underscores the state’s commitment to foundational educational infrastructure, recognizing that basic amenities are crucial for student well-being and academic performance.

The distribution includes thousands of ergonomically designed desks and chairs, whiteboards, teachers’ tables and chairs, and storage cabinets for classrooms. Additionally, schools are receiving teaching aids such as projectors, maps, globes, and science kits to enhance instructional delivery. The furniture is made from durable, locally sourced materials, ensuring longevity and supporting local industries. A careful assessment was conducted in each school to determine specific needs, ensuring that the distributed items are tailored to improve the learning experience for students and teachers alike.

“Our old desks were broken and uncomfortable. These new ones are fantastic! We can sit properly and focus on our lessons without backaches,” exclaimed Grace Amaechi, a primary school pupil, expressing her joy over the new furniture.

During the handing-over ceremony in Ngo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Blessing Ibani, highlighted the significance of providing a comfortable learning environment. “Quality education is not just about teachers and textbooks; it’s also about the physical space where learning happens. By supplying modern furniture and equipment in Andoni, we are creating a more dignified and effective environment for our children to thrive academically,” she stated. She urged school authorities and communities to safeguard the new assets, emphasizing that they are for the benefit of generations to come.

Teachers and parents in Andoni have expressed immense relief and gratitude for the government’s intervention. For years, many schools struggled with insufficient or broken furniture, forcing students to sit on floors, share desks, or learn in uncomfortable positions. These conditions often led to poor concentration, health issues, and a general lack of motivation among students.

“As a teacher, it’s demoralizing when students don’t even have a proper desk. Now, with these new chairs and tables, the classroom looks more organized, and students are more engaged. It’s a huge morale boost for everyone,” commented Mr. Philip Okocha, a secondary school teacher, noting the positive impact on the learning atmosphere.

Parents also lauded the initiative, recognizing that adequate furniture is a basic necessity for effective learning. “My daughter used to come home complaining about her old chair. Now she’s happy. It makes a big difference when children are comfortable at school,” shared Mrs. Florence Sunday, a grateful parent. Another parent added, “This shows the government cares about our public schools, not just building, but also equipping them properly.”
