Tai LGA Teachers Receive New Curriculum Training

Over 150 primary and secondary school teachers in Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State are currently participating in an intensive training program focused on innovative curriculum development and modern teaching methodologies. Organized by the Rivers State Universal Basic Education Board (UBE) in collaboration with education specialists, the workshop aims to equip educators with the skills to deliver more engaging, relevant, and student-centered lessons, moving beyond traditional rote learning.

The training covers a range of contemporary topics, including
integrating technology into the classroom, fostering critical thinking
skills, project-based learning, and adapting curricula to better
address local context and global trends. Participants are learning how
to design lesson plans that encourage active participation and
problem-solving, preparing students for the challenges of the 21st
century. “This training is truly eye-opening. I’m learning new ways to
make science exciting for my students,” remarked Mrs. Clara Eze, a
Biology teacher.

Education experts leading the sessions emphasized the importance of
continuous professional development for teachers to remain effective
in a rapidly changing educational landscape. “Our goal is to empower
teachers to be facilitators of knowledge, not just dispensers of
information,” explained Dr. Chidi Okoro, one of the facilitators. The
program also encourages peer-to-peer learning and collaborative lesson
planning among the participants.

Teachers expressed enthusiasm for the new approaches. “I believe these
methods will make a huge difference in how our students grasp concepts
and retain information,” said Mr. Kenneth John, a Primary School
teacher. Parents also lauded the initiative. “It’s good to know our
teachers are being updated. It means better education for our
children,” commented Mr. Peter Akpan, a parent. This initiative
reflects the state government’s commitment to raising the standard of
education across all local government areas, with a focus on teacher
quality as a cornerstone.
