Robotics and AI Clubs Spark Innovation in Andoni Schools

Students in selected secondary schools across Andoni Local Government Area are now venturing into the exciting world of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), thanks to a new initiative by the Rivers State Ministry of Education and technology partners. The launch of dedicated Robotics and AI Clubs aims to foster early interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields, providing students with hands-on experience in programming, design, and problem-solving using cutting-edge technologies.

The clubs offer a unique opportunity for students to learn how to build, program, and operate robots, as well as understand basic AI concepts. This practical exposure is crucial for preparing them for future careers in a technologically advanced world. “It’s so much fun building these robots! I never thought I could do something like this,” exclaimed Sarah Peter, a JSS 2 student, excitedly demonstrating her small programmed robot. The initiative seeks to demystify complex technologies and make them accessible to young learners.

Teachers involved in the program have also received specialized training to guide the students. “This isn’t just about robots; it’s about teaching critical thinking and collaboration. Our students are showing incredible aptitude,” noted Mr. Joseph Bassey, a Physics teacher and club patron. The program plans to organize inter school competitions, encouraging friendly rivalry and showcasing student innovations.

Parents are thrilled by the opportunities. “My son talks non-stop about his robotics club. It’s truly inspiring and pushes him to think creatively,” shared Mrs. Victoria Ibiwari, a proud parent. The introduction of these clubs signifies a forward-thinking approach to education in Rivers State, aiming to cultivate a generation of innovators and tech-savvy professionals from the grassroots. The long-term vision is to expand these clubs to more schools, building a strong foundation for technological advancement across the state.
