Port Harcourt LGA Students Attend Career Workshops

Secondary school students in Port Harcourt Local Government Area are currently benefiting from a series of career development workshops aimed at guiding them towards informed academic and professional choices. Organized by the Rivers State Ministry of Youth Development in collaboration with various professional bodies, the initiative provides students with insights into diverse career paths, essential skills for the modern workforce, and opportunities for mentorship. This program is crucial for preparing students for successful futures.

The workshops feature interactive sessions with professionals from fields such as engineering, medicine, ICT, entrepreneurship, and creative arts. Students learn about required qualifications, job market realities, and personal development strategies. They also participate in mock interviews and CV writing clinics. “This is exactly what we need. It helps us see beyond what we learn in textbooks and plan our future,” said Precious David, a SS3 student.

The Commissioner for Youth Development, speaking at one of the sessions, emphasized the importance of early career guidance. “Empowering our youth with knowledge about career options is vital for building a skilled workforce. We want to ensure no talent is wasted,” he stated. He encouraged students to explore their passions and make strategic choices. “I was confused about what to study, but these workshops have given me so much clarity,” shared another student, Emeka Nwachukwu.

Parents have also lauded the initiative, recognizing its value in a competitive job market. “It’s good they are exposing our children to different professions early. It helps them set goals,” commented Mr. Chinedu Eze, a parent. The program aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world career demands, fostering a generation of well-prepared and confident individuals.
