Africa Needs Rapid Climate Investment, Experts Warn

Leaders in Africa’s energy and mobility ecosystem have reiterated the urgent need for faster, large-scale investment in clean energy and sustainable transport solutions across the continent. This call resonated throughout the Delta40 Energy & Mobility Innovation Scale Summit, held recently in Lagos, Nigeria.

Hosted by Delta40, a venture studio focused on climate innovation, in partnership with GOGLA, the global association for the off-grid solar industry, the exclusive two-day summit convened senior decision-makers drawn from investment firms, technology companies, government agencies, and development institutions. Unlike conventional conferences, organisers described the gathering as a “catalyst” designed to spark tangible action, not discussion for its own sake.

Participants engaged in curated deal rooms, innovation labs, and venture showcases aimed at accelerating finance, forging partnerships, and scaling homegrown African solutions in clean energy and sustainable mobility. According to the organisers, the programme was structured to close gaps between innovators and the capital, partnerships, and policy support required to scale transformative technologies.

Lyndsay Handler, Managing Partner of Delta40, said Africa stands at a pivotal moment where affordable renewable technologies can unlock economic growth, widen energy access, and build a more sustainable future. She noted that the continent now requires “partnerships that scale” and “catalytic capital that moves faster,” warning that incremental change will not meet Africa’s urgent needs.

Handler highlighted significant shifts in technology affordability, noting that declining costs in solar and electric mobility technologies mean they are now cheaper in many cases than diesel and petrol alternatives. With over 80 million people in Nigeria alone still living without electricity, she stressed that accelerating innovation is no longer aspirational but necessary.

Supported by global development institutions including The Rockefeller Foundation, the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), and GET.invest, the summit serves as a platform to mobilise capital, unlock private-sector participation, and accelerate climate-smart solutions capable of powering Africa’s future.
