Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, Amasenibo Abinye Blessing Pepple, has taken decisive steps to ensure the full activation of the Bonny Fire Station, positioning it as the community’s frontline response to recurring fire incidents.
The Chairman revealed this on Wednesday, September 10, when he met with the management team of the Bonny Utility Company (BUC).
The meeting which was held at the Council Secretariat aimed at exploring the integration of the Fire Station into BUC’s operational framework.
Speaking during the meeting, Pepple reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to making the fire station fully functional, highlighting its importance to public safety.
He also revealed plans to collaborate with the Bonny Legislative Assembly to enact a law that will formally establish and sustain the fire station’s operations.
“Integrating the fire station into BUC will guarantee efficient service delivery especially with constant water supply, even as we seek support from multinational companies operating in Bonny.”

In a related development, the chairman instructed BUC to submit a detailed cost estimate for the repair of all non-functional streetlights across Bonny within 14 days.
He emphasized that improved street lighting is a crucial security measure and assured that the council will fund the necessary upgrades.
In his response, General Manager of BUC, Mr. Dominic Dung, praised the initiative, describing the fire station as a vital service for the community.
Dung pledged the company’s full cooperation and committed to delivering a comprehensive cost report for the streetlight rehabilitation project.
Also present at the meeting were Mr. Tamunotonye Adolphus Jumbo, Secretary of Council; Mr. Emmanuel Dan-Jumbo, Head of the Electrical Department; and other senior BUC officials.
