Caregivers have been urged to make judicious use of the long vacation period to promote the well-being of their wards.
An educational instructor, Chief Victor Nwuzo made this call via a radio programme monitored in Port Harcourt.
Chief Nwuzo who advocated extra-curriculum activities during the holiday period debunked the insinuation that vocation is meant for the academic weakling.
He stressed that skill acquisition at early age would go a long way to empower students to overcome economic challenges bedeviling the nation.
“Since they are going to stay longer about four months at home and you have already told them to make sure they get themselves engaged in various skills though under the parents it is easy to learn. So it is advised and encouraged that such parents should send their children who are between twelve and thirteen years to learn skills whether barbing, electrical insulation, phone repair, computer repair, plumbing or carpentry, ” he emphasised.

Chief Nwuzo enjoined the government, caregivers, academic institutions, and non-governmental organisations to create holistic programmes to engage students during the holiday period to shield them from vices.
He lamented that the welfare of teachers who saddled with the responsibility of inculcating knowledge into the wards is neglected appealing to relevant authority to do the needful.
“And do I call on the government to encourage the teachers via better remuneration and train the teachers by organizing workshops and seminars for them to acquire knowledge that would eventually be transfered to the wards”, he concluded.
The educator encouraged parents to always instill discipline into their wards to make them responsible citizens in future.
