Resuscitate Deplorable Standard Of Nigeria’s Educational System, ICT Consultant Tasks FG, Others

An information communication technology (ICT) consultant in Rivers State, Hon Bright Ikechukwu Nwankwo, has called on the Federal Government and stakeholders in the Educational sector, to resuscitate the standard of Nigeria’s educational system. Hon Nwankwo stressed that this is a pressing concern that requires immediate attention from the central government.

Speaking with newsmen recently in Port-Harcourt, over the deplorable pace of the educational system in Nigeria, Bright Nwankwo emphasized the need for comprehensive reforms,and to address the declining quality of education in the country. He said, repositioning of the sector can be achieved through the updating of the curriculum to align with modern industry needs and global best practices.

Hon Bright Nwankwo maintained that providing regular training, retraining, and other supports for educators to enhance teaching quality and effectiveness will cushion disastrous educational failures by students. He emphasized the importance of investing in modern infrastructure, including, technology, libraries and laboratories, to create a conducive learning environment.

On assessment and evaluation of the sector, Hon Bright Nwankwo, called for the practical implementation of a more holistic assessment system that focuses on skills development and competency- based progression.

Concerning clamours by Nigerians to declare emergency rule on the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) for an unimpressive examination template, Hon Bright Nwankwo, admonished President Bola Tinubu to urgently reform the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), to enable it rejig its examination pattern template for credible performance in terms of well programmed Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Both in planning well articulated scope, to avoid repeated mass failures as experienced in the just concluded mop-up examination.

He described the clamours for emergency rule on the board, as unacceptable. He added that such will not produce any reasonable results, rather will continue to create problems beyond the government imagination and solutions to the situation.

Hon Bright Nwankwo, however, pointed out that, by the resuscitation of the Board, future failures of candidates, if not properly addressed, can have long-term consequences for students and the nation’s educational system.

Nwankwo stated further said that to address this short-falls in the board, government can re-examine the format and content of the UTME, to ensure it accurately assesses students’ knowledge and skills.

He, therefore, demanded for investment in modern infrastructure and technology to on various institutions to enhance the security and integrity of the examination processes of the board.

On the training of examiners of the Board, Hon Bright Nwankwo, urged the Federal Government to provide adequate training programmes and other needed supports for teachers to better prepare students’ for subsequent examinations by the board.
