Suspended Rivers Health Commissioner Denies Involvement in Disruption of First Lady’s Programme

Commissioner for Health Rivers State

The suspended Rivers State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, has denied allegations linking her to the disruption of an empowerment program organized by the office of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in Port Harcourt on Friday, May 2, 2025.

Reports had surfaced claiming that Dr. Oreh was involved in a protest staged by some women during the event when Dr. Theresa Ibas, wife of the state’s Sole Administrator, was called to speak. The women reportedly walked out in disapproval, demanding the return of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In a statement personally signed and issued on Friday, May 2, 2025, Dr. Oreh described the allegations as “completely false” and a “mischievous attempt” to damage her reputation.

“The allegations levelled against me regarding the supposed disruption of the First Lady’s empowerment programme are entirely unfounded and a product of the sick imagination of rumour mongers and conflict entrepreneurs. They are nothing more than a feeble attempt to tarnish my image and sow discord.”

She challenged the group identified as the “Concerned Rivers Youth Organisation,” which reportedly made the allegations, to produce concrete evidence to back their claims.

“I have neither sponsored nor supported any activities aimed at embarrassing or disrupting the activities of the administration appointed by His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025,” she stated.

Dr. Oreh noted that since her suspension from office, she has focused on other personal and academic pursuits, including her doctoral studies.

Reaffirming her commitment to the progress of Rivers State, she emphasized the need for truth and integrity in public discourse.

“Furthermore, I believe that it is crucial for all stakeholders to promote a culture of truth, integrity, and respect in public discourse.

“At a time as delicate as this, wild and unsubstantiated claims only serve to undermine trust and hinder meaningful dialogue. We must focus on what unites us and foster solution-driven conversations for the benefit of our people,” she concluded.
